Morgan Lee Live

She talked about her life with Lee Morgan in a rare and exclusive interview in February 1996, about a month before she passed away of heart problems in a Wilmington, N.C. hospital. Her health had been in decline for years, and she explained that she wanted to do her one and only interview because she wanted to tell her side of the story. She was tired, she said, and knew she didn’t have long to live.

Lee Morgan – The Complete Live at the Lighthouse

Add Lee Morgan – The Complete Live at the Lighthouse to cart

Lee Morgan was listening to the Miles Quintet and was ready to leave his ‘Sidewinder’ days behind. That says a lot about the man who was expected to write bogaloo songs for the rest of his career. This is a different kind of Lee Morgan record, and a little diffcult at first if you are expecting a classic hard bop live album. Thanks to Blue Note for releasing a 3 CD, documenting the best of 3 nights at the Lighthouse. The sound is not the best it could be, you need to crank it up, but that is the only minor flaw for a stellar release.

The great Lee Morgan in a live setting, great recording, awesome performances, with Bennie Maupin on tenor and Harold Mabern on keys. Blistering solos, tight rhythm section, you know the band was having a great time and thankfully it was recorded. By all means get this recording, you wont be disappointed.
