My Story: Lucy Sheen & Being Othered by the ‘Others’
Like Lucy – See What Others Don’t
Picture the scene with me. It’s from C.S. Lewis’ . The four children, Peter, Susan, Edmond, and Lucy are traveling in unknown places, trying to get their bearings. Basically – they’re lost. But Lucy keeps seeing Aslan when no one else does. They think she’s making it up . . . or maybe she’s crazy. Nevertheless, Lucy is the one who gets messages and directions from Aslan. In fact, Lucy and Aslan are friends. It seems she’s nurtured the ability to see what others don’t. Incidentally, this ability opens the whole universe to her imagination and her life purpose.
“Lucy Liu: One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others”the first U.S. museum exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Lucy Liu, the artist, actress and advocate (filmed at the NVMY in 2021).
About the Exhibition:This exhibition “Lucy Liu: One Of These Things Is Not Like The Others,” focuses on her wood sculptures and on oversized paintings inspired by Shunga, a form of erotic art based on the “ukiyo-e” or Japanese woodblock. It also features representative works from her “Totem” series including “41”, in which intricate embroidered “spines” are paired with bold designs fashioned from fabric, paper and thread. Also on display will be an example of her silkscreens, and artworks from the “Lost & Found” series, in which found objects are incorporated into books which become works of art themselves.
