Other Kelly had an ASMR channel. None of the others had seen it, but I couldn’t sleep nights. She sat at a table close to the camera, so you only saw her to the neck, her long brown hair swinging a little as she moved; she held silver rings at the very tips of her fingers—fingers that were slightly longer than Kelly’s, no one could say those hands were the same—and tapped the covers of hardback books. It was doing pretty well.
The movie—which premiered opening night of the 2016 Sundance Film Festival—is an auspicious change of pace for Kelly, best known previously as a TV comedy writer whose credits include (among others) The Onion News Network, Broad City and Saturday Night Live. In fact, Kelly (along with writing partner Sarah Scheider) will serve as Head Writer for SNL’s upcoming 42nd season, beginning later this year. But according to Kelly, Other People is a far more accurate and unmediated representation of his true creative voice—not surprising, given how closely the content of the film hews to Kelly’s own life.
Over the course of more than 50 years, renowned American artist Ellsworth Kelly made approximately 400 postcard collages, some of which served as exploratory musings and others as studies for larger works in other mediums. They range from his first monochrome in 1949 through his last postcard collages of crashing ocean waves, in 2005.

Kelly was a man of quiet but unshakeable faith. Nothing mattered more to him than loving his family and serving others. He was an encourager, a prayer warrior, and a steady presence of peace. He prayed daily over our family, and praise and worship were close to his heart. During his hospital stay, one of the only times he raised his hands was to worship Jesus. As his earthly body weakened, one of the few words he continued to speak was “Amen,” faithfully spoken after prayers offered over him.
