The “Naked Rambler,” as he is known in the United Kingdom, is on a crusade for the right to stroll around wearing nothing more than boots and a backpack, plus a hat and gloves when it gets chilly. Two daunting walks across the country have challenged social norms and spooked the occasional onlooker.
Now, after another arrest, Mr. Gough is in Winchester prison in his native county of Hampshire, southern England. Prosecutors have decided to launch a test case to clarify the law on nudity and curtail the activities of the 6 ft. 3 in. Naked Rambler once and for all.
“The Naked Rambler is at worst a harmless eccentric and I admire his fundamental belief,” wrote Robin Galloway in the Sun newspaper.
