Ellie Whitaker (26) and Tegan Clark (33)
Ellie Whitaker (26) and Tegan Clark (33) set up WC Equine in September 2020, as the world was in Covid lockdown. It wasn’t ideal, but with Robert Cowell looking to let out a yard at Bottisham Heath Stud in Six Mile Bottom, just outside Newmarket, they took the plunge.
Thanks to my federal colleagues, including Senator Louise Pratt; the member for Perth, Patrick Gorman; and every Labor shadow minister—and now minister—who campaigned for our cause in Swan. Also, thanks to Senator Sue Lines, who has become the first female Labor President of the Senate. Thanks to my state colleagues Cassie Rowe, Geoff Baker, Hannah Beazley, Stephen Price, Bill Johnson, Stephen Dawson, Dr Jags, and Premier Mark McGowan. To our national secretary, Paul Erickson; our former state secretary, Tim Picton; our current state secretary, Ellie Whitaker; Henny Smith; and the WA Labor team—you ran an incredible campaign.
Whitaker enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona on a football scholarship but injuries ended his playing career early. The 6-2, 220-pound Whitaker has since starred on the big screen, most notably for his role in The Last King of Scotland, for which he won an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award, among several others. In recent years, he has appeared in Black Panther and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
